I think I have an ear infection…

First Haley, then Kelly, now me…

I thought they weren’t contagious.

  1. Umm, in case you were wondering, they are. The most common pathogens of an ear infection is a plain old fashioned rhinovirus (common cold), strep pnuemoniae (same thing that causes strep throat), and H. Influenza.

Not to worry, these little critters (SP and HI) are (typically) highly susceptible to most antibiotics. Rhinovirus usually takes care of itself.

  2. Thanks, doc! Side effects of amoxcacillin?
I’m sure poor spelling of amoxcacillin is one “known side effect”.
Going to the clinic at lunch.

  3. Amoxicillin has very low side FX (small incidence of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), unless your me and allergic to pencillin-class drugs. Then your joints swell up and hives abound. Not a pretty picture.

  4. They actually gave me Azithromycin. Also, they just took my word that it was infected as they could not see past the “rock” of wax in my ear. Remember kids, 100% transparency in blogging. Although less than 100% transparency in ear canals. Yeah, this is pretty gross. They spent like 30 minutes trying to clean it out and could not. On the plus side, if I can get my ears clean I should hear better, so I got that going for me… which is nice.
