Live from DIA…

Yeah, chilling in the aeropuerto. Thank the heavens for free wifi. I don’t pack my own.

Nothing super incredible happened today, but I did get to the airport 4 hours before my flight and…

1) for the first time ever there was no line at DIA

B) flight was delayed an additional hour

Flight has actually gone back to “on time” now, which is nice. Hopefully it stays that way as it’ll be pushing midnight when I get home irregardlessly. That’s a word, look it up.

Not a crazy story to be had from today. Went to a bunch of bike shops and talked a bunch of bike stuff. That’s about all. My plan is still to get through this booking season (a few more weeks) and then start shopping for a new sub-rep for CO. I will still be out here regularly, but you can’t expect to grow the business beyond a certain point without someone around ALL the time. It’s really dependent on relationships. Like I know I have products and lines and programs that are clearly better than stuff being stocked here and there, but getting in the door can be tough. So I’ll need some help.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Ready to get home to my girls!

Hump Day

Well, Wednesday anyway. I am on the road after all.

So yeah, darling wife’s birthday and I’m a state removed. She’s really good about such things.

Today was good. Woke up to 7 degrees and a few inches of snow, but it was 50 by the end of the day. I had two real appointments and went to another 4 shops in between. Mostly it went pretty well, I think.

Got done around 5:00 and went for a run up in the foothills. Run might be an exaggeration, but it was definitely faster than a hike and jog just sounds weak.

I had to wrap my head around the idea that it was shady in the foothills. Utah is the opposite, you see. At least where the population density is. Does that make sense? You be the judge.

Anyway, one more day. I have an appointment close to here in Boulder in the morning and then will pop in a few shops in Denver. My flight’s not until like 9:30 or something, so I’ll be spending some quality time at DIA. Remember the glory days of the Provo to Denver flight? Ahhh, if only the good times could last forever.

Really slacking on doing some follow-up from today. I better get it done as I’m not likely to get any more motivated tonight.

Adios, amigos!

Back in Colorado…

We’re not going to talk about that whole training thing. You can imagine how well that means it’s going.

I’m in beautiful Colorado…It was in the 60’s in Utah today and it was in the 20’s for a high here. Yeah, what the heck man? Last winter every time I came out it was way warmer here than Utah. I guess I timed it wrong. I’d love some snow in our mountains, but it’s less fun when you have to drive.

As you may recall, I had a sub-rep helping me for Colorado. Well, she’s moved on to sunnier pastures, so I’m trying to get business popping in hurry. I’ll probably be making my way out here right frequently again for awhile.

Anyway, you remember the rule. When I’m on the road, I post. So, today was good. The snow didn’t really start until the end of the day. Scored a super leg room seat on the flight and slept for most of it.

I love falling asleep before take off.

Once on the ground and rental car’d up, I had to go pick up some samples and commence visiting shops. I didn’t really have any appointments today, just kinda pop ins.

Now I am staying with some friends. I don’t know if it’s weird to talk about people online in a forum they’ll probably never see, but they’re awesome.

Anyhoo, I’m getting tired again, so I’m off to sleep.

Oh, one more thing. Tomorrow is my Kelly’s birthday! Yes, so sad that I’m on the road for her big day. I’ll have to summons all of my male brains to come up with something good for Friday night. She works that day, so I’ll have the day to plan. And watch kids. And work, of course!

For the record, I have committed to recommit to committing to train (or at least exercise)when I get back.

Pattern Life

Okay, so we have a pattern. I am on a steady pattern of 3 or 4 days on and 3 or 4 days off. Oddly, weekends are tough. With Kelly working the weekend, I have to get it done super early or super late and so far, I’m failing to do so. Unfortunately, this is pretty useless for making any sort of progress. I am tired, so I’m good with today off, but I need to get up super early tomorrow and get something done. That said, this week has been solid thus far. Now, let’s see if I have any motivation come tomorrow.

Happy Valentine’s Day, yo.

Baby Steps

So this week has been marginally better. I’ve ridden 3x, run 2x and skied pow! The volume has still been really low, but hey, I’m getting something done. Today I’ll take off. I did shovel the driveway, which has to count for something.

Tonight we’re (darling wife and I) going to see “Rising from Ashes”. If you’re not familiar, click the link:

I just saw it on Wednesday, but it was great, so I’m happy to see it again. Can’t believe it took me this long to see it in the first place.

Hanging out with Piper and Rory this morning. I’m trying to get some work done (and blogging, because that’s super important) before heading off to the library. Not much else to report at the moment.

No really, I mean it this time…

I’m not going to get anywhere riding 3 days then taking 3 days off (repeat).

So I did something crazy today and rode rollers. I’m an outside guy, but that wasn’t an option and something is better than nothing (theoretically), so I did it.

The goal this week will be to ride 5 days, run 1 or 2, and ski. Skiing isn’t for fitness, I just want to  do it. It’s supposed to snow every other day for the next 10 days, so things should theoretically be good there.

Oh yeah, this is a cycling blog now. Right. So yeah, need to get some real rides in. I won’t go too crazy, but if if I can do the above and at least one ride at the 3 hour mark, that will be real progress.

Wish me luck, but wish me discipline even more. The hard part is getting up early with a house full of sleeping kids…

So Far, So Okay

So, yeah, here’s an update…

I need to get a battery for the bathroom scale. That would make for some concrete evidence going forward. #1 training tool for a cyclist.

Anyway, I managed to ride T, W, Th…Not a lot, but each of those days. Some flats, some climbing (even broke a spoke under my Xtreme powa), and even an hour on rollers. Will wonders never cease? I didn’t ride yesterday. Did take (all) the kids skiing yesterday…having Rory on my back the whole time counts as a workout for sure.

Today is going to be tough. Kelly works all day. I thought about getting up super early to ride rollers this morning, but then I didn’t get to sleep until 1:00ish, so that wasn’t going to happen. Maybe I can jump on the rollers or go for a quick run when she gets home. It’s tough though, she’s tired after a long day on the slopes, I’m worked over from kid herding all day and it’s nice just to have us all together! We’ll see. Tomorrow’s pretty much out. I rarely ride on Sundays (not against it from a religious perspective, it just doesn’t happen), plus Kelly is working again. I have to teach my class too. My partner was released, so I teach every week now. Not complaining, I like my group!

Alright, that’s about all I have. Stay tuned. You never know when I’ll do something awesome. Or awesomely stupid.
