Yowsa. Winter hit hard. How do you go from high’s in the 50’s to barely cracking 15. And not for a day or two, but a week straight.
Ok, enough BLW. It’s beautiful at the moment. Cold, and beautiful.
Things have gotten pretty desperate for me…I’m considering joining the new Provo rec center for a few months. I haven’t gone to a gym to workout in over 10 years, but between Kelly’s new gig and the artic conditions, I’m tempted. I am definitely an outdoors guy. Riding a bike inside is like surfing dry, it’s just not right. BUT, as of now, I am doing nothing. And something is decidedly better than nothing. They have a daycare at the facility, so that’s sounding pretty good. If Kelly’s working, I can load up Piper and Rory and get a wee bit of fitness while Haley and Morgan are in school. We’ll see. I’m not sold just yet.
And of course, I’ll be skiing soon. We’ve gotten a ton of snow in the past week. 22″ in 24 hours at Sundance on Saturday, but I have to figure out the scheduling a little better.
Plus, Piper is sick. She was up a lot last night coughing. It’s so sad. She hardly has a voice. We may have to take her to the doc soon.
In other news, I got a new frame today!! Pretty stoked. No pictures until it’s built though. Rules are rules. Pretty sure it’ll be used in our booth at Outdoor Retailer next month. Yes, the winter show, but it’s a good conversation starter. So, I’ll probably hold off riding it until at least then.
The way things are going, I figure I’ll ride the cross bike most of the winter. Knobby tires mean you work harder and/or go slower, both of which are good for staying warm. Plus a little extra traction can’t hurt. I’d have to get out at all for any of this to be relevant, I guess, technically.
The latest…Kids went back to school Wednesday. Oh yes, my productivity is clearly on a different level with 50% fewer kids in the house! Unfortunately, Haley got sick (yes, as in “sick”) Wednesday night and had to miss the second day of school. What a bust. She was pretty much full gas again by Thursday, so it’s back to it today!
I’ve just been trying to get as many work appointments in as possible. Preseason due dates are coming up, which is a high stress time of year for me. Do we eat next year or not?!? Ha!
Need to start getting appointments set up for Interbike as well. One thing I don’t want is to be bored in Vegas!! If I’m going to be there (which I am), I have to fill every minute.
Should probably determine where I’m staying at some point too. Last year I waited until the last minute. Circus Circus was fine, honestly.
Going to do a quick trip down to see some accounts in St. George next week. Trying to determine if I can bang it out in one day or need to spend a night. I don’t have that many shops down there, but it would be nice to meet some more.
In other news, I’ve been riding my own bike a bit more this week. Nothing crazy. I see all these guys getting ready for Blotoja on their bikes at 6, 5, even 4am. Nutso! Not for me. An hour or two a day is plenty for this old timer. At least for the moment. I am super stoked for the return of P-town Cross on Wednesday nights though. Nice to have a race in the ‘hood.
Anyway, that’s about the state of things. Living the dream, Provo style.
So, I finally broke my photo ban, but at least I used one of the finest films of all time in doing so.
Anyway, when last we left off I was coming home from Denver. Thursday and Friday were a bit of a blur. I was booked solid on Thursday and most of Friday. When I got home on Thursday, Kelly had the girls out. I NEVER have the house to myself and so, even though I told Kelly I was going for a run, I promptly fell asleep on the couch. I slept for 2 hours, and then had no problem going to bed a few hours later. Friday I drove around all day again, but wasn’t feeling great. Saturday I woke up with a horrid pain in my throat. Kelly took the girls to the library in the morning so I could rest and I slept another two hours. Not usually a napper, pinky swear.
That afternoon, I cracked and went to Urgent Care. And yeah, I had strep throat. They gave me the option of a giant shot in the butt or a Z-pack. The one and done approach of the shot was tempting, but the doc made it sound pretty bad, so I went with the oral option.
Sunday, I was still no good. You can imagine how stoked Kelly Belly was given I was gone all week and then sick all weekend. Anyway, she took Haley and Morg to church in the morning and then took Morg skiing in the afternoon. Haley, Piper, Rory and I went to the park, but I was in a foul mood and probably not on my best daddy form.
Feeling spot on now and we are getting some nice spring-like weather this week, so I’m trying to make the most of it. Had a week with practically no exercise, so starting from scratch again. The strep did curb my appetite, so I lost a couple pounds, so that was a bonus. Got out for a goodie today, so that’s something.
Fingers now crossed for the rest of the family to stay healthy!
Like most weeks, it had 7 days.
Oh, okay…more details if you insist. We had a house full of sickies most of the week. Err’body’s on antibiotics (save, Kelly, Rory and I). Okay, I guess 50% of us are on antibiotics.
I got a decent powder day in on Wednesday. One of those days where it was warm and barely snowing/almost sunny at the base and howling wind, blowing snow on top. It was icy in some spots and super deep in others. Hopefully, my skillz are improving.
The rest of the week I was mostly running. A couple good trail runs in the snow. Saw what appeared to be some cougar tracks, along with elk, moose and that most rare creature, the magestic deer. I am slow as syrup running, but I am starting to enjoy it, which I never thought I’d say.
Yesterday, I actually got out on a bike ride. Just an hour, as Kelly was taking Haley and Morgan skiing in the evening, but it was sweet. Not terribly cold. I’m due to go out for more today. Hopefully, it’s the start of something.
Piper still sounds pretty sick, but hopefully err’body’s on the mend.
